Eging X sits below the whole Emeraldas hierarchy and is Daiwa's starting point for the technique. Eging is the Japanese method of casting an egi, a weighted artificial shrimp with two crowns of upturned barbless spines, jerking it upward in short strokes and then letting it sink; aori-ika, the bigfin reef squid, wraps the egi on the fall. The lineup is deliberately narrow: four two-piece models, 8'3" and 8'6" in ML and M power, 108 to 113 g, rated for egi from 1.8号 to 4.0号 with PE 0.4 to 1.0 line. Those two lengths and two powers cover the great majority of shore situations, which is the point of an entry series. Egi are sized on the 号 scale at roughly 3 cm of body length per unit, so ML at 1.8号 to 3.5号 handles autumn squid and light conditions while M at 2.5号 to 4.0号 takes the larger spring fish and stronger tide. Construction is straightforward: Braiding X cross-wrapped carbon tape at the butt to hold torque down without thickening the blank, stainless-frame K guides shaped to shed the slack loops eging throws, and a Fuji VSS reel seat.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 4 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
