Boat eging is a different fishery from shore eging and needs a different rod. The boat drifts across a mark, the angler drops a heavy egi straight down, gives it a few sharp strokes and then stops it dead; the squid takes on that pause, and the only signal is the tip loading fractionally. That method is called tip run, and because it uses purpose-built heavy egi or a standard egi with a sinker clipped on, boat rods are rated in grams rather than in the 号 sizes shore rods use. AIR Boat is the high-end boat series below EX Boat. Seven two-piece models run 5'11" to 7'2" and 64 to 92 g, rated 15 to 90 g of egi on PE 0.4 to 1.0. Lengths are short because the rod is worked vertically over the gunwale. Most models carry Mega Top carbon solid tips, the component that does the actual bite detection. Blanks are SVF Nanoplus with X45 bias carbon and V-Joint alpha ferrules, on AGS carbon-frame guides and an Air Sensor carbon reel seat. Two models break the pattern: the 68MLS IL is an interline build with the super water-repellent internal coating, and the 64MB-S is a baitcasting model at 92 g for vertical work with a counter reel. The 72MS at 7'2" is the one long enough to cast as well as tip run.
