The Daiwa FT Trolling series is made for entry-level and budget-conscious freshwater trollers who want a reliable, specialized rod for planer boards, downriggers, and flatline trolling. The target angler is a Great Lakes or reservoir troller seeking a no-frills tool for walleye, salmon, or trout without a large investment.
Both rods are built on durable fiberglass blanks, which provide the flex and forgiveness needed to absorb the shock of trolling loads and keep hooks in fish. Stainless-steel hooded reel seats, aluminum oxide guides, EVA grips, and a rubber butt cap with gimbal notch tie the series together at a consistent value-tier price point around $35.
The lineup spans two rods differentiated by length and power: a 7' ML for lighter lines and lures, and a 9'6" MH for heavier setups and longer spread. Both are 1-piece casting rods with fast action and Spinning options in the lineup is absent.

A closer look at notable models.
Shorter, lighter option suited to flatline trolling with lighter lures and smaller bait rigs. The 7-foot length works well paired with a line-counter reel for close-range or shallower trolling presentations on walleye or smaller trout. Line rating of 8-15lb suits monofilament and light superline leaders.
Extended 9'6" length is designed for planer board or downrigger spreads requiring more rod separation and line clearance. The MH power and 12-30lb line range accommodates heavier trolling lures and leader setups for larger salmon, lake trout, or steelhead. Extra length also helps absorb runs from larger fish.
