The base mebaru line, the entry point below RX in a family Daiwa first launched in 2005. Construction is straightforward: HVF carbon blanks with MegaTop solid carbon tips on the S models, a SiC tip guide, and a compact grip carried over in shape from the higher series. The notable design choice is guide sizing. Daiwa fits a larger 4 mm class stripper than is usual at this level, which costs nothing in a blank this light and buys measurable distance when casting sub-1 g jigheads or fishing stiff monofilament, and makes threading line easier in the dark. That matters because mebaring is almost entirely a night fishery. Mebaru are Japanese rockfish that stack under harbor lights and along weed and rock edges after sunset, and the standard approach is a small plug or a 1 g jighead worked slowly, or drifted with the current until a fish takes. Fish of 30 cm, what Japanese anglers call shaku-mebaru, are the benchmark. The lineup covers 610L-S at 2.08 m, 74UL-S at 2.24 m, 76L-T at 2.29 m and 83M-T at 2.51 m for float rigs and heavier plugs at range, at 64 to 86 g and rated 0.3 to 5 g up to 2 to 15 g on PE 0.1 to 0.6. The taper is a loading action that hooks fish on the retrieve rather than demanding a fast strike. Mebaru models use a red separate grip section; the aji models are black.
