One step below EX and the widest of the Gekkabijin ranges, the 2023 AIR generation is built to a stated weight reduction of roughly 15 percent against the models it replaced. The lightest rod is the A 53L-S at 39 g. AIR keeps AGS carbon-frame guides from the flagship but moves to SVF carbon rather than COMPILE-X, with X45 bias wrap, V-JOINT ferrules, MegaTop solid tips on the S models and Zero Seat. The lineup splits three ways. Ajing models carry an A prefix and a silver butt section with a stiffer blank, from A 53L-S at 1.60 m to A 711M-T at 2.41 m. Mebaru models run 68L-T, 74UL-S and 83M-T, 2.03 m to 2.51 m. Two baitcast rods, 63XULB-T and 73ULB-T, cover close-range accuracy work along walls and around submerged rock. Mebaring is the companion discipline to ajing and targets mebaru, the Japanese rockfish of the genus Sebastes, which hold under harbor lights, along weed edges and against structure. The technique leans on small sinking pencils, floating plugs and jigheads near 1 g fished on a slow retrieve or allowed to drift with current, so the tubular T tips here are tuned for lure control while the solid S tips favour bite detection. Ratings span 0.3 to 5 g up to 2 to 15 g, with PE 0.1 to 0.6, and rod weights from 39 to 70 g.
