The mebaru-focused arm of the mid-tier MX range, sitting under AIR and above RX. Mebaring is the night game for mebaru, the Japanese rockfish that sit under harbor lights and along weed and rock edges waiting for bait to drift past. The fishing is a mix of slow retrieves with 3 g class plugs, jigheads near 1 g allowed to swing with the tide, and float rigs to reach fish holding off breaks, which is why the MX spread runs from the 68L-T at 2.03 m to the 83M-T at 2.51 m and from 0.5 to 8 g up to 2 to 15 g on PE 0.1 to 0.6. Blanks are HVF Nanoplus carbon reinforced with X45 and joined with V-JOINT spigot ferrules. MegaTop solid carbon tips appear on the 610L-S and 74UL-S only; the rest use tubular tips, which return more vibration and give sharper lure control at the cost of some of the solid tip's willingness to fold on a soft take. MX was the first Gekkabijin series to get a carbon monocoque rear grip, an all-carbon butt that passes bottom contact and mid-retrieve bites straight into the hand. The reel seat is Zero Seat Compact Fit, seamless-fit on the six spinning models and cavity-trigger on the 73ULB-T and 76LB-T baitcasters. Weights run 66 to 86 g.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 8 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
