MX-grade tackle for vertical boat ajing, with a lineup Daiwa states is centred on Tokyo Bay conditions. The difference from a shore ajing rod is structural rather than cosmetic. Shore rods are rated for the lure itself, usually a 0.4 to 3 g jighead that has to be cast. These are rated for the sinker they hold at depth: 5 to 30 g on the 66UL-S, 10 to 40 g on the 64L-S and 15 to 60 g on the 68ML-S, on PE 0.15 to 0.6. Lengths are held between 1.93 m and 2.03 m so the rod stays workable on a crowded deck, and weights run 55 to 65 g. All three use high-modulus MegaTop solid carbon tips, which is the part that does the work when the bite arrives 20 m down and the only signal is a change in tension. Blanks are HVF carbon with X45 bias reinforcement, and the seat is an Air Sensor compact-fit design with carbon fibre in the moulding. Guides are stainless-frame SiC K-guides in a tangle-resistant layout, with the tip and first guide set close together. The taper is deliberately soft behind the tip so hooked fish stay pinned; Daiwa positions the 68ML-S for deep water and fish in the 50 cm class.
