Gekkabijin MX MB

MB stands for mobile, and this is the multi-piece travel build of the MX platform. All three models break into five sections and pack down to 41 to 47 cm, short enough for a backpack or a carry-on, at 78 to 83 g assembled. Daiwa uses V-JOINT ferrules through the spigot joints to keep the bend continuous, which is the specific problem a five-piece light-game rod has to solve: in ajing and mebaring the angler is reading a 0.6 to 2 g jighead through the blank, so every dead joint costs information. The range covers 510UL-S-5 at 1.78 m, 65L-S-5 at 1.96 m and 610UL-S-5 at 2.08 m, rated 0.3 to 5 g and 0.5 to 8 g on PE 0.1 to 0.4. Blanks are HVF Nanoplus with X45 reinforcement, and all three carry MegaTop solid carbon tips, tuned here with enough tension to shake a light head while still bending on a take. The rear grip is a carbon monocoque, the reel seat is an Air Sensor Neo Traditional, and the tip guide is a small-diameter LF. The 65L-S-5 is the general-purpose length for both aji and mebaru; the two UL models lean toward sub-1 g heads and small metal jigs around harbor lights.
