The Daiwa Harrier X Jigging is a saltwater vertical jigging rod series designed for bottom fish and mid-water jigging from boats, covering Pacific Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast US fisheries. Primary serves are halibut, lingcod, rockfish, and amberjack using flutter jigs, knife jigs, and traditional treble-hook jigs. Blanks use Daiwa's X-45 Bias carbon construction with nano resin, which reduces blank twist under load and produces a thinner, lighter cross-section than conventional weaves.
The result is a blank that loads evenly through the full bend instead of ovaling under heavy jig pressure. Fuji Tangle-Free K-guides with Alconite rings handle high-modulus braided lines common in deep jigging. A 5-year limited warranty backs the series. All 17 models are jigging-specific baitcasting (B suffix) or spinning (S suffix), split nearly equally: 9 conventional/baitcasting and 8 spinning. All models are 5'8", 6'6", or 7' with Regular (R) action throughout -- the standard for vertical jigging where rod flex aids jig animation and reduces arm fatigue.
Powers run M through XXH. The M power models at 6'6" and 7' (30-65lb, 1.75-5.625oz) target lighter jigging for rockfish and smaller lingcod; MH covers mid-depth amberjack and large rockfish; H handles halibut and large lingcod; XH covers deep-water or heavy-current jigging; the single XXH baitcasting model (HRX58XXHB) is for maximum-depth or maximum-current scenarios at 4.25-12.375oz.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The sole XXH model and only one without a published line rating. At 4.25-12.375oz, this is the heaviest jig application in the series -- suited for extreme depth, strong current, or made for very large bottom fish where standard XH would not hold bottom. Spinning counterpart exists at this power is absent.
Entry-power model for finesse jigging. The 30-65lb line range and 1.75-5.625oz lure window serves smaller rockfish species, shallow lingcod, and light-tackle amberjack applications. The 6'6" length provides better leverage than the 5'8" variants when working lighter jigs with more rod movement.
