The Kage Ultralight is Daiwa's independent-dealer-exclusive ultralight spinning series, positioned in the approximately $200 retail tier. It serves finesse freshwater anglers, specifically crappie, panfish, light trout, and small stream species, who want a refined blank with Daiwa technology at a price point accessible through independent tackle shops instead of big-box retail. The 'Kage' name (Japanese: shadow/reflection) reflects Daiwa's dealer-specific branding strategy. Blanks are SVF (Super Volume Fiber) carbon with X-45 Bias Carbon Construction, the same anti-twist wrap Daiwa uses across higher-tier series, combined with Megatop solid-tip technology on select models.
The solid tip adds strength, reduces snapping at the tip section, and improves sensitivity for detecting subtle panfish bites. Guides are Fuji Alconite rings in tangle-free frames. Reel seat is Fuji VSS. Handle is premium cork throughout, unusual at this price point. The 11-model lineup is all UL or L power spinning, covering 5'6" to 8'6". Models appear in 1-piece and 2-piece variants at each length (5'6", 6'1", 7'1") and in multiple action designations (F, XF, R) at longer lengths.
