Kohga X

The entry point into Daiwa's tairaba range, five models built to one length. Tairaba is the red seabream fishery in which a rubber-skirted jig head is sent to the bottom and wound back at a constant speed; the strike is a sequence of taps, and a rod that folds under them hooks more fish than one that pushes back. Every Kohga X is 6'9", centre-cut two-piece, and rated in jig grams against PE rather than by the American ultralight-to-extra-heavy scale. Four baitcasting models step through the head weights: M for 30 to 120 g in shallow water, MH for up to 150 g as the general-purpose rod, H for up to 200 g including deep and fast-current drifts, XH for 300 g heads and the chance of a yellowtail. One spinning model, 69MHS-S, handles up to 65 g for casting and angled retrieves when a vertical presentation stops producing. Blank weights run 100 to 113 g, PE ratings 0.5 to 1.5. The tips are carbon solid so the jig stays settled and the fish loads the blank. Butt sections carry Braiding X carbon tape against twist, and the baitcasting models use a spiral guide layout with stainless K guides, which keeps line off the blank without a level wind. Top guides are 5 mm and larger to pass spring debris.
