Labrax AGS sits one rung under the Morethan and Morethan Branzino flagships in Daiwa's Japanese seabass ladder, and one rung above Lateo. Japanese seabass, suzuki, is a Lateolabrax species fished with minnows, vibration baits and small swimbaits around harbor lights, breakwaters, tidal rivers and estuary flats. The closest American reference point is shore fishing for striped bass: the same long two-handed spinning rods, the same braid, the same 7 to 60 gram lure window, and the same reliance on tide and current seams rather than structure casting. The 12-model spread covers 2.59 m to 3.35 m, or 8'6" to 11'0". A 90L rated 5 to 28 g and PE 0.5 to 1.2 handles light river current; 96MH and 110MH-3 carry 12 to 60 g and PE 1.0 to 2.5 for surf and big-river work. Blank weights run 112 g to 180 g, and carbon content is 99 percent throughout. Every model gets AGS, Daiwa's carbon-framed guide system, which is the technology the series is named for and the main separator from Lateo below it. The blanks use HVF Nanoplus carbon, X45 bias carbon wrapped at 45 degrees against blank twist, a V-Joint ferrule and an Air Sensor carbon reel seat. Two 3-piece models, 110M-3 and 110MH-3, keep an 11-foot shore rod transportable.
