Lateo BS is the standard-grade half of Daiwa's boat seabass pair, sitting under Labrax AGS BS. Boat seabass rods answer a different problem than the shore rods that share the Lateo name. Nothing here needs to reach across a flat from a bank, so the nine models run 1.93 m to 2.26 m, roughly 6'4" to 7'5", short enough to cast and work lures from a moving deck with other anglers alongside, and short enough to lift a fish over the gunwale. Six are spinning (67MLS, 64MS, 69MS, 72MHS, 68MHS, 75MHS) and three are baitcasting (65MLB, 68MB, 66XHB). Ratings span 5 to 25 g and PE 0.6 to 1.2 at the light end, through 10 to 50 g on the MH spinning models, to MAX 130 g and PE 2.0 to 4.0 on 66XHB. Blank weights run 95 g to 126 g. Coverage is deliberately broad, from small worm and jighead presentations up to large surface plugs, and the same rods handle bay yellowtail and Spanish mackerel. Blanks use X45 bias carbon against twist and HVF Nanoplus, with an Air Sensor carbon reel seat and stainless SiC K-guides. Tip taper and guide spacing were revised to cut line wrap around the tip in headwind and crosswind, the failure mode that costs the most fishing time on a drifting boat.
