Maddragon

The Daiwa Maddragon is a carp rod series built to European-style carp fishing specifications. All three models are 12-foot two-piece spinning rods rated for 6–18 lb line, calibrated by test curve, the standard European carp rod performance metric, instead of lure weight or power rating. Test curves are 2.75 lb (MD2234), 3.00 lb (MD2300), and 3.25 lb (MD2314). This series is made for the North American angler adopting continental carp fishing methods, a niche that has grown as European-style carp angling spreads in the US and Canada.

Blanks are graphite composite construction, not the high-modulus carbon typical of Japanese or premium US freshwater rods, but suited to the long-casting, high-load application of carp fishing with bolt rigs and heavy leads. The design emphasis is on casting distance and blank durability for extended sessions instead of sensitivity. Guides are aluminum oxide. The reel seat is stainless hooded. The three models are arranged by test curve in increments of 0.25 lb.

The 2.75 TC MD2234 is the softest, suitable for closer-range carp fishing and smaller specimens; the 3.25 TC MD2314 suits longer casts with heavier leads and larger fish. All three are spinning configuration (fixed spool reel) as is conventional for carp fishing globally. Casting models is absent. Specialty application, outside the multi-purpose freshwater rod lane.
