The New Beefstick Salmon Steelhead Striper is Daiwa's entry-level fiberglass workhorse for West Coast Pacific salmon, steelhead, and striper fisheries. It is built for durability and versatility across casting, trolling, drifting, and plunking techniques instead of sensitivity or casting distance optimization. The target angler is a utility-focused river or bay fisherman who puts gear through hard use and values price-to-durability ratio.
All blanks are fiberglass, not graphite, which provides the baseline toughness for repeated long-duration fights against large anadromous fish and accounts for the value price range ($38–60 retail). Two-piece construction with extra-hard EVA grips, heavy-framed cut-proof ceramic guides, and a stainless-steel hooded reel seat. Fast action across all models despite the glass blank, which is a departure from typical fiberglass softness.
Nine rods span 8'–10', split roughly evenly between casting (baitcasting) and spinning. Power ratings run M through XH; the 9' XH casting (BFSSS902XHFB, 14–50 lb line, 3/4–3 oz) is the heavy salmon/striper anchor-plunking end while the 10' M spinning (BFSSS1002MFS) covers lighter drift-fishing. No rod shorter than 8', this is outside the close-quarters or trout-style series lane.
