The Daiwa New Kage Ice is a premium ice fishing rod series built for a wide range of hardwater species and presentations, from panfish through walleye to large lake trout and pike. The defining technology is Daiwa's SVF (Super Volume Fiber) blank construction, which uses a higher concentration of carbon fiber with reduced resin, yielding a lighter, slimmer, and more sensitive blank than standard construction. The Megatop solid tip is an ultra-sensitive yet durable tip section engineered to detect subtle bites through ice.
Anglers here are serious ice fishermen who want a purpose-differentiated rod for each species or technique instead of a single generic stick. Nine models, all spinning configuration, in a specialized package for the ice environment. Fuji Tangle-Free guides with Alconite inserts resist freezing and ensure a clean line drop. Crafted cork handles are standard. Lengths run 2'4" to 4'0", typical for ice rods. Actions are XF throughout except the two longest models (KAG34M and KAG40MH, which are F action).
The series carries a 5-year limited warranty, uncommonly strong for ice rods at this price tier. Power/length split follows species made for logic: UL models at 2'4"–3'0" target bluegill, crappie, and small perch; L models at 2'6"–2'8" cover general panfish; M models at 2'8" and 3'4" suit walleye and bass; the 4'0" MH model handles lake trout and pike. The KAG28QT model is a specialized quick-tip (deadstick) variant for passive soaking presentations.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model in the series. At 2'4" UL, this is a dedicated panfish rod for tight shanty conditions, suited to bluegill and crappie on ultra-light jigs and spikes.
The QT designation indicates a quick-tip (deadstick) model. Designed for soaking live minnows or leeches while jigging another hole, the extra-sensitive tip detects passive strikes with minimal rod movement.
DS indicates deadstick configuration, longer than the QT at 3'0", suited for soaking bait suspended under a tip-up style setup. Extra length provides more visual movement for detecting subtle bites.
The longest and most powerful rod in the series at 4'0" MH. Specialized for lake trout and pike through the ice, where additional length helps clear ice shelf and MH backbone handles heavy fish.
