The standard Over There is the entry rung of the ladder, below SX and EX. Blanks are HVF carbon rather than SVF, the guide train is K-frame with an SiC tip ring to shed line tangles when casting into a headwind, and the reel seat is Air Sensor. Nine models cover 2.97 to 3.38 m (about 9 ft 9 in to 11 ft 1 in) at 162 to 190 g, rated 7 to 60 g for lures, 7 to 65 g for metal jigs, and PE 0.8 to 2.5. The 111M is the longest rod in the family. Two four-piece travel versions, 109ML/M-4 and 1010M/MH-4, break down to 88 cm. Split power codes such as ML/M mean a softer tip over a stronger butt, so a single rod handles jig-head shads, 12 cm minnows and 30 g metals. American readers should reset their idea of surf gear before reading the ratings. This is a lure fishery worked on foot from sand: hirame (Japanese flounder) and magochi (flathead) sitting in the trough, plus pelagics when they corner bait against the beach. No sinkers, no cut bait, no rod holders driven into the sand. The nearest analogue at home is beach casting metals and paddle-tails for fluke and stripers. Length is about reach and line control over breaking surf, and lure weight in grams with PE line sizing is simply how Japanese saltwater rods are specified.
