The Presso Air targets trout, panfish, and small inshore saltwater species. It is built for anglers who want high-sensitivity ultralight performance, the kind of angler fishing pressured stocked trout water, clear creek panfish, or light-tackle coastal species where feel and presentation precision matter more than brute power. The ICAST designation marks this as a showcase release from Daiwa.
Blanks are HVF Nanoplus graphite with X45 cross-bias fiber layup, which Daiwa says reduces twist under load and improves casting accuracy. A MegaTop solid carbon tip section replaces a hollow tip on all models, intended to transmit micro-strikes to the hand. Guides are Fuji K-frame with Alconite rings, appropriate for light braid. One casting model (PRAIR5101ULFB) rounds out what is otherwise a spinning-dominant lineup.
The lineup spans 5'10" to 8'6". Shorter 6' and 6'6" UL/L models are paired to tight-quarters or small-stream work; 7' and 7'6" models in both UL and L power offer a broader casting range for open-water trout or lake panfish. Two 8' and 8'6" XF-action models push the upper boundary of the series for longer-cast scenarios. Line ratings top out at 10lb in most models.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The sole casting model in the lineup. Short length and UL power suited for bait-finesse or tight-cover ultralight baitcaster presentations, a niche choice for anglers running light spinning-weight lures on a casting setup.
Shortest spinning model. 1-4lb line and 1/32oz floor make this a dedicated micro-lure tool, streams, small ponds, or open-face reel finesse work. Least versatile in the series but most specialized for sub-2lb fish on delicate presentations.
The 6'6" L-power model with the widest line range in the short-rod tier (3-10lb) and lure ceiling up to 3/8oz. Functions as the series crossover rod, handles both finesse trout work and light bass or inshore duties better than the UL siblings.
The only baitcasting model in the lineup. Relaxed action with Light power, calibrated for bait finesse style presentations where a through-loading blank is more forgiving than a faster tip. Suits anglers who prefer casting gear for small-stream trout or finesse bass.
The lightest-rated spinning model, 1 lb minimum line and 1/64 oz minimum lure. Calibrated for micro-jig and small spoon area trout presentations. Relaxed action gives the rod enough travel to load on near-weightless casts.
First of two XF-action long-rod models. The 8' length adds casting distance for open-water trout lakes or shore panfish while the XF tip aids bite detection at range. Lure ceiling drops back to 1/4oz despite the longer blank.
Longest model in the series and the only one reaching 8'6". Same XF action as the 8' but the extra half-foot is made for maximum cast distance on still water or light surf. The 3/8oz lure ceiling allows small metal jigs and swimbaits.
