The Proteus is Daiwa's offshore boat rod series intended for inshore and offshore saltwater fishing on both US coasts. Its wide line-weight spread, 10-25lb on the lighter M models through 65-100lb on XH spinning, covers a range of offshore presentations including light bottom fishing, trolling, and standup-style fishing for tuna, dorado, and yellowtail. Blanks are HVF carbon with Braiding X tape to resist twist.
Fuji FazLite tangle-free K-guides are used throughout. Grips are EVA foam. The series carries a 5-year limited warranty. An independent 2017 review rated the series 87/100, noting strong graphite with adequate backbone for average-size offshore pelagics. The lineup spans 7' to 8'10", covering M through XXH power in both casting (conventional) and spinning configurations. Spinning models carry the FS suffix and run in two length tiers (7' and 7'4"/7'6"–8'), with higher line ratings (20-100lb) reflecting heavy braid and wind-on leader use.
Casting models run 7' to 8'10"; the sole 8'10" model (PTB810HF, H/F) is the longest in the series. XXH casting models at 7' lack published line ratings in the provided specs.
