Proteus Inshore
All-purpose 8-foot inshore baitcasting rods spanning medium through heavy power for US coastal species
The Daiwa Proteus Inshore is a baitcasting-only rod series built for medium to heavy inshore saltwater applications along US coastlines. Target species span a broad range: snook, speckled trout, cobia, tarpon, and calico bass. The series positions itself as a versatile inshore workhorse instead of a finesse or technique-specific tool. All three models in this lineup are 8-foot two-piece casting rods. Blanks are Daiwa HVF (High Volume Fiber) Nanoplus low-resin carbon, wrapped with X45 carbon fiber bias-weave to resist blank twist under load.
Construction keeps weight down while maintaining the strength needed for braid-heavy inshore setups and repeated exposure to saltwater, boat decks, and rough handling. Guides are Fuji Alconite ring with K-shape tangle-free frames, relevant for anglers running braid-to-fluorocarbon leaders, where guide wrap is a persistent issue. Handle is a cork-EVA hybrid. The series carries a limited lifetime warranty. All three rods share the same 8' length; models differ entirely by power: Medium (PRIN80MFB, 12–25 lb, 1–5 oz), Medium-Heavy (PRIN80MHFB, 40–70 lb, 2–6 oz), and Heavy (PRIN80HFB, 55–80 lb, 2–8 oz).
The MH and H models step into braided-line territory with substantially heavier line ratings, clearly intended for larger fish and heavier terminal rigs. All are casting (baitcasting) configuration; Spinning models in this sub-lineup is absent.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 3 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.

Model notes
2 of 3 modelsHeaviest model in the lineup, 55–80 lb line rating puts it in braided-line tarpon, large cobia, and heavy structure territory. At 8 oz max lure weight, it can handle large live bait rigs and heavy jigs.
The lightest model, with conventional mono/fluoro line ratings of 12–25 lb. Best match for speckled trout, smaller redfish, and flounder with moderate lure weights. The only model in this lineup that doesn't assume braid.
