The Daiwa PX Bass series is a specialized bait finesse (BFS) casting rod pair designed for anglers using BFS reels and ultra-light lures in finesse bass fishing. The technique, established in Japan and growing in North America, demands rods that can load and cast aerodynamically inefficient, lightweight lures (micro cranks, small swim jigs, drop shot rigs) on baitcasting gear with 3–8lb line. The target angler is a technique-oriented bass fisherman seeking baitcaster precision with finesse lure weights.
Both models are 6'8" casting rods tuned to BFS-specific applications and designed to pair with Daiwa's PX Baitcaster reel. The XF-action PX681LXB-BF uses an SVF Nanoplus full carbon blank for maximum sensitivity, marketed as the "Vertical Master", based on bottom-contact vertical presentations. The R-action PX681ULRB-BF uses a fiberglass-carbon composite blank for added compliance, marketed as "Finesse Moving Bait", suited for reaction strikes where tip softness improves hookup rate.
Both feature Fuji Light K guides and split EVA foam handles. The lineup is narrow by design: two rods, same 6'8" length, same 3–8lb line range, both casting. The primary differentiator is action and blank material, each made for a distinct BFS scenario. The XF carbon rod covers vertical finesse techniques; the R composite rod covers horizontal moving-bait applications. Spinning models exist in this series is absent.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
"Vertical Master" configuration, SVF Nanoplus full carbon blank with extra-fast action for maximum sensitivity on bottom-contact finesse presentations: drop shot, split shot, and light jig. The fast tip detects subtle bites while the carbon blank transmits ground detail back to the hand.
"Finesse Moving Bait" configuration, glass-carbon composite blank with regular (moderate) action for a parabolic load that buffers the hook on reaction strikes from small swimbaits, micro cranks, and inline spinners. The softer tip keeps fish pinned on the thin-wire hooks common in BFS presentations.
