The Saltist Trolling series serves Southeast and West Coast saltwater trolling, mahi, wahoo, kings, cobia, with an emphasis on mid-range to heavy line classes. It is built for anglers fishing from center-console or offshore boats who run multiple rod/reel combos in rod holders and need a one-piece, roller-tipped stick that handles sustained drag pressure. The triangle-shaped power-lift grip and aluminum gimbal signal use in a rod belt or gimbal bracket instead of hand-held fishing.
ALPS roller guides on tip and stripper position reduce line heat under sustained drag, which distinguishes this from standard spinning/casting guides. The triangle-shaped powerlift EVA grip geometry is Daiwa's design for two-handed wringing leverage during fights. Aluminum gimbal with laser-etched logo and removable butt cap allow in/out-of-gimbal use. Fast action across all models helps transmit trolling bites quickly. All five blanks are 5'6" or 6', short by trolling rod standards, common for offshore standup or cockpit-style fishing.
Five models, all labeled 'spinning' but functionally standup offshore trolling builds with roller guides. Power runs M (20–50 lb), MH (30–60 lb), and H (50–80 lb); all are fast action; 5'6" models cover all three power ratings while the 6' models offer M and MH only. No light-line or downrigger variants.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Heaviest model in the series. The 50–80 lb class serves large wahoo, sailfish, or bull mahi on heavy tackle setups. Only available in 5'6", the shorter length aids leverage when fighting big fish from a gimbal.
Longest light-line option. Six feet gives slightly more tip travel for detecting lighter bites on 20 lb setups while staying manageable in the cockpit.
