The Seagate Boat series is Daiwa's entry-to-mid-range saltwater boat platform, made for anglers who fish inshore and nearshore saltwater species from a boat. The lineup covers light inshore jigging, general bottom fishing, live lining, and moderate offshore trolling across a single 12-rod family, with dedicated spinning, conventional (casting), and trolling variants. Blanks are described as slim but powerful, conventional fiberglass-composite construction without proprietary high-modulus designations.
Guides use saltwater-resistant frames with aluminum oxide rings. Reel seats are stainless hooded. Handle material is EVA foam. The trolling sub-group (SGT-QRT suffix) includes quick-release tip hardware. The SGT60XHR-RS spinning model has a roller stripper guide, made for heavier braid applications. Overall construction is functional and corrosion-resistant instead of performance-optimized. Daiwa backs the series with a 5-year limited warranty.
The 12 models break into three groups: conventional (baitcasting) from 7' M through 7' XH, spinning parallels at 7' M and MH plus one XH, and three trolling rods at 5'6" (M, MH, H power) plus a 6'6" XH slow-action wire-line variant. The 6'6" SGT72C in Slow action is the wire-line trolling outlier; all others are Fast action.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Compact trolling rod with quick-release tip at H power; suited to heavier bait trolling for kings, wahoo, or stripers where a short, powerful stick is preferred.
Roller-stripper spinning model at XH power; the R action and roller guide handle heavy braided line under sustained drag. Targeted at large fish vertical presentations on spinning tackle.
Conventional counterpart to the XHR-RS; same 40–100 lb rating but no roller guide. For anglers preferring conventional reels on heavy inshore or nearshore species.
The only Slow-action model in the lineup; XH power and 6'6" length suggest wire-line or leadcore trolling where a parabolic load curve is needed to dampen wire's lack of stretch.
