This two-rod series covers a fishery with no direct American equivalent: vertical metal jigging for trout in deep Japanese lakes. Anglers work from a boat over structure, dropping 20 to 80 g jigs on PE 0.4 to 0.8 for rainbow trout, brown trout, char (iwana), cherry salmon (sakuramasu) and the endemic Biwa trout and lake trout of Japan's larger lakes. Both models are baitcasting, both 1.91 m (6'3") in two pieces, and both carry the same 20 to 80 g and PE 0.4 to 0.8 ratings. The difference is tip construction, and it is the whole point of the series: 63LB-S uses a solid tip at 85 g, which loads on the drop and shows the slack-line pickups that trout give on a falling jig, while 63LB-T is tubular at 106 g, with more direct action on the rod tip for jigs worked with sharp lift and fall. Daiwa's stated intent is that jig type, water and target species determine which of the two an angler picks. Blanks are HVF carbon with X45 bias wrapping, on an Air Sensor carbon reel seat that keeps blank vibration reaching the hand during long vertical sessions. Development involved expert testers with the aim of keeping the rods usable across skill levels.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 2 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
