Silver Creek is Daiwa's long-running Japanese native trout brand, and Trad is its core lineup: rods for wild yamame, amago, iwana and rainbows in mountain streams and rivers, fished with 1 to 18 g spinners, spoons and minnows on 1.5 to 14 lb line. Twelve models cover 1.37 m to 2.31 m (4'6" to 7'7") at 68 to 115 g. Blanks are HVF Nanoplus carbon with X45 bias wrapping and V-JOINT ferrules, the last of which is aimed at removing the stiff spot a two-piece joint normally puts in the middle of the bend. Daiwa describes the action as revised to cover both the low-activity early season, when fish take softly in cold water, and the peak-season fishing that follows, and the lineup is weighted toward accuracy casting into pockets rather than distance. Ratings start at 1 to 5 g on 410XUL and the 48XULB baitcaster for the smallest stream lures, sit at 1.5 to 7 g and 2 to 10 g through the bulk of the range, and reach 4 to 18 g on the 7'7" 77ML for large rivers and lake shores. Three baitcasting models (46ULB, 48XULB, 51LB) cover close-quarters work. Two four-piece variants, 48UL-4 and 46ULB-4, exist for anglers hiking into headwaters or travelling.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 12 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
