Wise Stream is Daiwa's portable native trout series. Native trout (ネイティブトラウト) means wild fish in mountain streams and rivers, principally yamame, amago, iwana and rainbows, taken on 1.5 to 18 g spinners, spoons and minnows at short range under overhead cover. The 14 models are organized around transport. Four are telescopic: 46TUL, 50TUL, 50TL and 56TL, with the 50TUL collapsing to roughly 45 cm. The rest are three-, four- or five-piece: 43UL-3, 48UL-3, 410L-3, 53L-3, 56L-3 and the 74ML-5. Lengths run 1.27 m to 2.24 m (4'2" to 7'4") and weights 69 to 115 g. Daiwa's stated aim was removing the usual penalties of collapsible blanks, the flat spots at the joints, excess stiffness and added weight, so the loaded curve reads closer to a one-piece rod, with a slimmer grip diameter than the format normally allows. Blanks are HVF carbon with X45 bias wrapping. Most models are rated 1.5 to 7 g or 2 to 9 g on 2 to 6 lb, the standard headwater window; 74ML-5 is the outlier at 4 to 18 g and 4 to 14 lb for large rivers and lake shorelines. Four baitcasting models, 42ULB-3, 46ULB-3, 50TULB and 53LB-3, cover the short accurate casts that tight stream corridors demand.
