The Kaden Travel Rod is Dobyns' multi-piece travel adaptation of the Kaden series, built for bass and general freshwater/saltwater anglers who need performance-grade rods in a packable, transit-friendly format. Gary Dobyns developed the series specifically for traveling anglers, tournament fishermen hitting remote venues, fly-in bass trips, or anglers restricted to carry-on luggage. The series ships with a custom heavy-duty hard case with a divided interior and a buckle-attachment system for backpack or rolling luggage, which is an unusual level of case-specific design for a production series.
All rods are 3-piece construction, built on high-modulus blanks with Fuji reel seats, Sea Guide XO guides, and Kevlar wrappings. Spinning models use Portugal cork handles; casting models use full cork; swimbait models use EVA. Rods are built on the spline and balanced. The series covers a wider technique range than most travel series, running from 4–8lb UL finesse spinning at 7' up to an 8' H baitcasting rod rated for 2–8oz lures (the KTR806SB), which is a saltwater popper or swimbait dimension. Nine rods split across spinning (SF suffix) and casting (C and CB suffix), 6'10" to 8'.
The lineup includes a 6'10" crankbait casting model, three 7'1" spinning rods (UL, ML, M), three casting rods (6'10"CB crankbait, 7'1" MH, 7'1" H), and two full-handle swimbait/heavy casting rods (7'4" XH and 7'9" MH rated for 1–5oz, then 8'0" H rated for 2–8oz). The two heavy models step clearly out of the conventional bass range into offshore-capable or swimbait territory.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Dedicated crankbait travel casting rod at 6'10". MF action allows the blank to load and unload properly on treble-hooked crankbaits, the only composite/MF action model in the lineup, deliberately softer than the Fast-action casting rods.
Lightest model in the series. Intended for finesse spinning with drop-shot, light ned rigs, and small tube baits on 4–6lb fluorocarbon. The UL rating on a 7' travel rod is unusual and adds genuine versatility to the pack.
First of the two heavy swimbait/popper models. 1–5oz on a travel rod is a serious capability, suited for big swimbaits or saltwater popper work when traveling to large-fish destinations. The 7'9" MH provides sweep and leverage without XH stiffness.
Longest and heaviest model. 8oz ceiling at 20–40lb line is well outside bass territory, this is a coastal/offshore swimbait or large popper tool for traveling saltwater anglers. The 8' H configuration is unusual in a travel series.
