Megabass Arms Challenge is a limited-production, premium Japanese bass casting and spinning series built on the ARMS platform. Megabass's flagship ergonomic rod line. The series is made for dedicated Japanese bass anglers and collectors who want a functional, high-end tool instead of an off-the-shelf production rod. The ARMS Challenge was produced in extremely limited runs (approximately 100 pieces per model globally) and commands pricing around $999 USD per rod. Blanks use ARMS Hi-Impact Multiplex and Hi-Compression Coreplex graphite in a 7-axis layup, shared with Megabass's X7 flagship destroyer blanks.
Guides are Fuji SiC titanium frame. The reel seat is a stealth-style custom unit; the grip is Galaxy Maple natural wood (ergonomic, Ito-Head Locking System III). Custom handle options (left/right orientation, guide wrap colors) were available at the time of production. These are primarily casting rods with a few spinning variants. The models span a broad range from finesse spinning to big-bait casting. Eight models: five casting, three spinning. Lengths run 5'10"–7'6"; powers span light finesse (3–7 lb) through heavy casting (10–25 lb).
Lure weight floors are 1/32 oz on the lightest spinning model through 3/8 oz on heavy casting models. The 5'10" A5105X (GO-TEN) is the flagship throwing 1/4–1 oz on 10–25 lb; lighter spinning models (A6101XS, A6402XS) handle finesse applications down to 1/32 oz.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The GO-TEN model. Megabass's classic 5'10" baitcasting length optimized for pitching and skipping in tight cover. The 1/4–1 oz range covers jigs, Texas rigs, and mid-weight reaction baits. This length is a Megabass signature dimension across many series.
Lightest model in the series at 3–7 lb and 1/32–1/8 oz. A finesse spinning tool for drop-shot, Ned rig, or micro jig presentations on clear water where subtlety matters. Rare to see this spec level combined with ARMS-tier construction.
DIABLO TYPE-ARMS. 6'11" casting model for power presentations: swim jigs, mid-heavy swimbaits, or bladed jigs on 10–25 lb. The long-blank length in a casting rod is uncommon; provides leverage for long casts and working baits at distance.
