The Megabass Cookai is a shore saltwater series covering surfcasting, shore jigging, and inshore lure fishing from rock and sand. It is based on Megabass's 5D blank system, a multi-directional carbon layup that the company says reduces PE line slap during full-swing casting while maintaining tip sensitivity for reading current changes and detecting short strikes on the fall. The intended angler is familiar with Japanese shore-game techniques: minnow jerking, metal jig manipulation, and topwater walking. The 5D blank construction uses graphite with cross-directional fiber reinforcement at the lower section to manage blank twist without adding weight.
Guides are titanium-framed SiC-S, consistent with Megabass's premium saltwater builds. The balance point is described as comparable to short bass rods despite the long shaft, unusual for surf-length rods. Two casting models (CK-77EXHC, CK-710EXHC) share an EXH power rating and are configured for large topwater plugs such as the Megadog. The spinning models span a wide range from light shore rockfishing (CK-86LS, L power, max 20g) to heavy beach jigging (CK-83XXHS, XXH power, max 100g). Action designations split between Regular (slower, more parabolic) and Medium Fast. Eleven models: nine spinning, two casting.
Spinning spans 8'3"–10'8"; casting spans 7'7"–7'10". The two casting models are both EXH rated (max 150g, PE up to 8.0) and function as dedicated large-plug/popper tools. Spinning models are organized loosely by weight class: light/slow (CK-86LS, CK-92MLS, CK-96MS, CK-101MS) for shore minnow work; medium-heavy/MF (CK-810MHS, CK-93MH+S, CK-108MHS) for versatile inshore jigging; and the XXH CK-83XXHS at the top for heavy shore jigging up to 100g.

A closer look at notable models.
Designated "Megadog Master" by Megabass, EXH power, Regular (slow) action, max 150g and PE8.0. The slower blank loads fully with large surface plugs and helps walk them side-to-side without over-stiffness killing the action.
Three inches longer than the CK-77EXHC with a Medium Fast instead of Regular action, trades some large-plug walk-the-dog compliance for extra casting distance with poppers and stickbaits at the same EXH power rating.
Heaviest spinning model at XXH power and max 100g / PE5.0, designed for casting heavy metal jigs from rock points into strong current. Notably short at 8'3" for its power class, trading distance for control in confined rocky settings.
Entry point of the spinning range, L power with max 20g suits light minnow and small jig work for sea bass and light inshore species. Unusually long at 8'6" for L-power duty; the length aids reach without adding power.
