The TRIZA is Megabass's most structurally unconventional rod series — a 3-piece blank where the piece count is not a travel compromise but the central design premise. The Triangle Concept, developed by Yuki Ito and ITO Engineering, is the principle that a 3-piece blank allows each section to be engineered independently for a distinct mechanical function rather than being a continuous compromise across the whole blank.

In the TRIZA's construction, the tip section is built to maximize TENTION — blank tension for sensitivity and tip responsiveness. The belly section balances TORQUE (the pulling resistance generated during a bend) and TENTION. The butt section prioritizes RIGIDITY — torsional stiffness and resistance to load. The three sections connect through a patented Jointed Connector system designed to transfer force between them without the performance loss associated with conventional multi-piece ferrule joints. The result, per Megabass, is a blank that can eliminate the redundant overlapping carbon layers that appear at every joint in a one-piece blank's manufacture — which contributes to weight reduction rather than the weight addition typical of multi-piece construction. The TRIZA received the iF (International Forum) Design Award in 2020.

The series offers 10 models: 6 casting (XTZ suffix) and 4 spinning (XSTZ suffix), covering F0 ultralight through F7 heavy swimbait. All models are 3-piece. Closed lengths range from 66.5cm (F0-63XTZ Aello) to 76cm (F7-72XTZ Dragoon and F3-72XSTZ Ageha) — substantially shorter than the folded length of conventional 2-piece rods of equivalent blank length.

The Exclusive Tip System extends the concept further: four models (F7-72XTZ Dragoon, F2-66XTZ Sparna, F0-68XSTZ Hibali, and F1-66XSTZ Yamasemi) accept interchangeable tip sections that change the rod's action profile. The Dragoon ships with a REGULAR tip and a FAST tip; the Yamasemi ships with a FAST tip and a second EX FAST solid-tip section. Purchasing the appropriate Exclusive Tip turns a single rod into two functionally distinct setups.

Build quality is at the custom level: natural bird's-eye peacock wood reel seats, aluminum short triggers machined from solid stock, hand-threaded guides, hand-polished rings, and hand-drawn graphics on each blank. The TRIZA is positioned at the premium end of the Megabass freshwater lineup, above the LEVANTE and OROCHI X10 in construction and material specification.

A closer look at notable models.

F0-63XTZ Casting · 6'3" · UL · S action

Aello — one of the storm-wind Harpies of Greek mythology — is the lightest and slowest casting model in the TRIZA lineup. SLOW action at 6'3", 1/32-3/16oz, and 2-7lb occupies genuinely ultralight territory. SLOW action on a 3-piece blank engineered for tip TENTION produces a very gradual, deep loading curve that keeps light lures — micro jig heads, tiny soft plastics, split-shot rigs — in contact with the blank through the entire cast and retrieve. Closed length 66.5cm makes this the most compact model in the series. The Triangle Concept's weight-reduction benefit is most apparent at this end of the power range, where every gram of blank weight affects feel in ultralight presentations.

F2-66XTZ Casting · 6'6" · ML · MF action

Sparna is an Exclusive Tip-compatible casting model: it ships with a single tip but accepts the F2-66XTZ Exclusive Tip #1 for a second action configuration (EX FAST, Solid Tip). Standard configuration is MEDIUM FAST at 6'6", 1/8-1/2oz, and 6-12lb — a finesse-to-light casting setup for compact jigs, small swimbaits, and finesse presentations in the 1/8-1/2oz window. The MEDIUM FAST tip section feeds sensitivity and presentation control at these weights while the belly-to-butt sections provide the blank stiffness for casting accuracy. The Exclusive Tip upgrade converts the same rod into a completely different application without changing the belly or butt sections. Closed length 69cm.

F1-66XSTZ Casting · 6'6" · UL · F action

Yamasemi (山翡翠 — Japanese for mountain kingfisher) is the second Exclusive Tip-capable spinning model, and the most application-flexible in the spinning lineup. The standard tip is FAST action; the included second tip converts to EX FAST with a solid section — both configurations work the same 6'6", 1/32-3/16oz, and 3-8lb spec. FAST configuration suits active finesse presentations where the blank's quick tip response aids casting precision. The Exclusive Tip switch to EX FAST solid brings in the sensitivity advantages of solid-tip construction for drop shot or static finesse presentations where detecting subtle pressure changes on the line is the priority. Two usable configurations from a single rod, with the conversion taking only the time to swap the tip section. Closed length 69cm.

F3-68XTZ Casting · 6'8" · M · MF action

Grils is the standard-format medium casting model: MEDIUM FAST action at 6'8", 1/4-5/8oz, and 6-14lb. The name is ambiguous in mythology, but the spec is clear — this is the all-around mid-weight casting rod in the TRIZA lineup, covering the lure weight range where most finesse-to-light casting applications concentrate. MEDIUM FAST at 6'8" provides a balanced blend of tip sensitivity and mid-blank loading for moving presentations, jigs, and compact swimbaits. The TRIZA's section-specific engineering means the MEDIUM FAST designation here describes the tip section's taper specifically, while the belly and butt sections maintain their dedicated TORQUE and RIGIDITY functions. Closed length 70.5cm.

F0-68XSTZ Casting · 6'8" · UL · F action

Hibali (雲雀 — Japanese for skylark) is the lightest and most specialized spinning model in the TRIZA lineup, and one of three Exclusive Tip-compatible models. Standard configuration is FAST action at 6'8", 1/32-3/16oz, and 2-7lb — extreme ultralight spinning for the smallest practical lure weights. Fast action on such a light blank gives immediate feedback transmission and responsive hookset even on 2-3lb line. The Exclusive Tip F0-68XSTZ #1 converts this model to EX FAST with a solid tip for maximum sensitivity — appropriate for drop shot and micro wacky presentations where the difference between hollow and solid tip construction is most apparent at the lightest lure weights. Closed length 70.5cm.

F4-69XTZ Casting · 6'9" · M · R action

Thunderbird — the Native American supernatural storm bird — carries REGULAR action at 6'9", 1/4-3/4oz, and 8-20lb. Regular action in the TRIZA's Triangle Concept shifts more of the TORQUE function into the retrieve and cast cycle, loading the belly section more fully under moderate loads. At this lure weight range, REGULAR suits jerkbaits, crankbaits, and medium soft plastics where the parabolic loading generates smooth bait action and controlled hooksets. The 6'9" length keeps the blank compact relative to power for accurate presentations in moderate cover. Closed length 71.5cm.

F2-70XSTZ Casting · 7' · UL · MF action

Lopros is the standard finesse spinning model — no Exclusive Tip compatibility, fixed MEDIUM FAST action at 7'0", 1/32-1/4oz, and 3-10lb. The 7" length is the longest blank paired with this lure weight range in the TRIZA lineup, giving maximum casting distance for open-water finesse presentations. Drop shot at distance, long-line wacky rig on large reservoirs, and light shakyhead rigs in deeper water all benefit from the extended reach. MEDIUM FAST provides a gradual loading curve that keeps the blank from over-damping the cast with such light lures, while the TRIZA's tip section TENTION engineering preserves feedback clarity. Closed length 74cm.

F5-70XTZ Casting · 7' · MH · MF action

StymPalides — the Stymphalian Birds of Greek mythology, one of Heracles' twelve labors — steps into the medium-heavy casting range. MEDIUM FAST at 7'0", 3/8-1oz, and 10-25lb covers the application space between finesse and heavy, where moving lures at the top of the medium weight class and heavy jig applications sit. The 7" length adds casting range over the shorter models and gives the blank enough moment arm for heavy spinning jig and large moving lure presentations. The TRIZA construction keeps the closed length at 74cm despite the blank's length — meaningfully shorter than the folded form of a conventional 2-piece 7'0" rod.

F3-72XSTZ Casting · 7'2" · ML · MF action

Ageha (アゲハ — Japanese swallowtail butterfly) is the heaviest and longest spinning model in the TRIZA lineup. MEDIUM FAST at 7'2", 1/16-1/2oz, and 4-12lb spans a wider lure weight range than any other spinning model in the series — from 1/16oz ultralight through 1/2oz, covering the full spread from finesse drop shot through mid-weight shakyhead and light swimbait applications on spinning gear. The 7'2" blank provides considerable reach for open-water presentations. At the top of the lure weight range, the belly section's TORQUE function engages more actively, helping the blank load and recover cleanly on moderate-weight lures without losing the tip sensitivity that defines the series. Closed length 76cm.

F7-72XTZ Casting · 7'2" · H · R action

Dragoon — a soldier equipped for both mounted and foot combat — names the most powerful rod in the TRIZA casting lineup, and the most application-flexible. The Exclusive Tip system is central to this model: it ships with a REGULAR action tip and accepts an Exclusive Tip #1 that converts to FAST action, giving the angler two functionally distinct rods from one blank body. REGULAR configuration (1/2-3oz, 12-30lb, 7'2") covers large swimbaits, big glide baits, and heavy jig applications with deep, smooth blank loading. FAST configuration with the exchanged tip converts the same rod for pitching and flipping where a stiffer tip drives hooksets through heavy cover. Closed length 76cm — portable for a 7'2" heavy blank.
