The Smith BAYLINER AKBM is a light-game saltwater spinning series from Smith Ltd. Designed for multi-species light jigging and finesse lure fishing for species including akame (Japanese lates), kisu (Japanese whiting), bera (Japanese parrotfish), and mebaru (rock fish). The AKBM designation refers to the species and technique coverage, akame being the primary target name embedded in the model code. The series is part of the established BAYLINER family, which spans multiple light-game sub-series within Smith's saltwater range.

All three models use a 24t+30t graphite composite blank with Fuji K titanium-frame guides and SiC rings throughout, keeping line friction low for the light PE and ester lines standard in this style of fishing. The BL-722ML and BL-812ML are 2-piece spinning models in 7'2" and 8'1" respectively; the BL-C812ML is a baitcasting variant of the 8'1" blank. Lure ranges of 1–15g (722ML) and 2–18g (812ML) cover standard akame and light-game lure weights. Moderate Fast action is consistent across all three.

The lineup provides three clear choices: compact spinning for close-range work, a long spinning blank for distance and wade-fishing reach, and a baitcasting option on the same long blank for anglers who prefer reel handle-up jigging posture. The casting and spinning 8'1" models share the same length and power, giving tackle shops a natural pairing option.
