The Smith Offshore Stick GTK is a high-end JDM topwater and popping rod series for blue-water and nearshore pelagic species, GT (giant trevally), yellowfin tuna, Spanish mackerel, and similar. GTK stands for Graphite, Titanium, and Kevlar, the three-material composite used in the blank construction. This combination is intended to deliver high strength with reduced weight and improved vibration-dampening compared to pure graphite, which matters when working large stickbaits or poppers for long sessions. The series sits at the premium end of Smith's offshore lineup and is a known tool among serious GT hunters in Southeast Asia, Australia, and Japan.

All three models are spinning. The GTK-70SJH (7'0") and GTK-80SJX (8'0") are surface-jerking models, specialized for working lipless minnows, pencils, and slashers with a rhythmic jerk-pause cadence. The GTK-80SJX serves larger fish at distance; its extra length adds casting range and leverage for the retrieve. The GTK-74PG is designated Powerful Game, a broader-use offshore rod for poppers and heavier presentations up to 130g. All models run to PE5 (approximately 20 lb) braid maximum and handle lures up to 110–130g.

Rod weights are substantial (285–370g), consistent with the blank materials and guide train for this application. Three spinning models: 7'0" SJH (surface jerking, H), 7'4" PG (powerful game), 8'0" SJX (surface jerking, XH). Casting models is absent. Length spread covers close-range surface work through long-range GT applications. The 74PG is the most versatile of the three.

Deeper Dive

A closer look at notable models.

GTK-70SJH Spinning · 7' · H

7'0" surface jerking H model. Rod weight 285g, max lure 110g, max PE5. Standard length for boat-based GT stickbait work. Compact enough for casting from a vessel with limited deck space.

GTK-74PG Spinning · 7'4" · XH

Powerful Game designation makes this the most versatile model in the trio, suited for poppers, large stickbaits, and general-purpose heavy inshore/nearshore use up to 130g. Rod weight 289g. Good crossover between jerking and popping applications.

GTK-80SJX Spinning · 8' · XH

8'0" XH surface jerking rod, heaviest and longest in the series. Rod weight 370g. Designed for long-range casting to large GT or yellowfin tuna. Extra length increases casting arc and leverage when working oversized surface lures.
