The Smith SMOKY is a shore saltwater light-game spinning series made for anglers who refuse to carry two rods to the rock or sandy beach. Conceived by Smith as a "rod that doesn't need two hardrods," it covers the overlap zone between finesse metal jigs, topwater plugs, minnows, and soft-plastic jig-heads, the kind of versatile saltwater light-game fishing popular on Japan's rocky coastlines. The target angler is an experienced shore angler who wants a single tool capable of switching between metal vibe, jig-head, and surface tactics without a rod change. Both blanks are two-piece center-cut constructions sharing the same profile: a glass-composite tip section mated to a 40t-carbon butt.

The glass composite tip provides both the sensitivity to detect subtle bites and the forgiveness to avoid hook pull on treble-hooked surface lures, while the stiff 40t carbon butt supplies casting power and fish-fighting backbone. Guides run Fuji SiC-S rings throughout, with titanium frames from tip to No. 7 and stainless from No. 8 onward. The Fuji VSS reel seat uses a skeleton double-touch (double-b) grip, keeping overall weight low while providing a secure hold during wind action and jerk retrievals. Released in early 2024. (JDM series; copy translated from smith. jp.) The two-model lineup separates by action and lure weight instead of length, both measure 7'5" and pack at 117 cm.

SRM-S75 (L, MF) is tuned for minimal-weight presentations from 0.9 g up to 11 g on PE 0.3–0.8, including topwater plugs and light jig-heads where a softer tip improves lure cadence. SBG-S75 (ML, XF) steps up to an extra-fast taper and stiffer power class (1.2–15 g, PE 0.3–1.0) for metal vibes, larger soft plastics, and jerk-style retrieve where immediate blank recovery is critical. Price sits at ¥45,000–¥46,000 (+tax), positioning the series firmly in the mid-premium tier.

SBG-S75 Spinning · 7'5" · ML · XF action

Medium-light power with an extra-fast taper for metal vibes, jig-heads, and jerk-style soft plastics from 1.2 g to 15 g on PE 0.3–1.0. The stiffer blank and fast recovery enable positive hook sets on metal lures and smooth, reactive jigging. Rod weight 90 g. The butt section is described as cross-wrapped carbon for additional torsional stiffness.

SRM-S75 Spinning · 7'5" · L · MF action

Light power, moderate-fast action tuned for lures from 0.9 g to 11 g on PE 0.3–0.8. The glass-composite tip and softer taper improve action on topwater plugs and small jig-heads while still transmitting bites cleanly. Rod weight 81 g. Designed where lure operability takes priority over outright casting distance.
