The Star Rods Seagis is a saltwater inshore spinning and casting series built for light-tackle fishing made for redfish, snook, seatrout, flounder, and similar species along grass flats, oyster bars, and structure edges. The series sits in the $130–170 range and uses Fuji K-Series tangle-free guides with Alconite rings paired with a Fuji SK2 split reel seat and a high-modulus specially processed graphite blank. It is not built for heavy surf, offshore, or freshwater use. The primary angler is an inshore specialist who fishes braided line with fluorocarbon leaders.
Fuji K-Series guides are braid-friendly and designed to prevent wind knots, which is relevant for the light 1/8-3/8 oz finesse presentations in the lineup. The blank construction is described as fast-taper with a firm mid-section, appropriate for feel-oriented techniques like working soft plastics and jerkbaits. Rod weights of 3.5–4.3 oz keep all-day casting comfortable. The series was recognized on Field & Stream's "Best Saltwater Rods of 2023" list. The 18-model lineup is spinning-dominant: 16 spinning rods and 2 casting models.
Only 7' and 7'6" lengths are represented, no shorter rods. Powers run UL to MH. The "G" suffix in model codes denotes full cork grip versions (e. g. SK817FT70G vs. SK817FT70), with both grip styles offered at most length/power combinations. Separate "PK" prefix models denote the two casting rods. Power spread: 4-10 lb (UL), 6-14 lb (L), 8-17 lb (M), 10-20 lb (MH).
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The 4-10 lb / UL rating on an inshore rod suggests trout and finesse presentations on skinny water. Works for light flounder rigs and small jig heads in shallow grass flat situations.
One of only two casting (baitcasting) models in the lineup. Serves anglers who prefer casting reels for larger lures and heavier leaders when working mangroves or dock pilings.
Heaviest spinning model and the longest available. The 1/2-1.5 oz lure range covers larger swimbaits and heavier jig heads for oversized redfish or snook near structure.
