The Star Rods Reverend is a freshwater bass-focused rod series from Star Rods' entry into the freshwater market, using the Sour Mash branding to invoke a Southern Americana identity. The series addresses casting and spinning applications for bass anglers across the primary technique categories, jigs, soft plastics, topwater, moving baits, and swimbait-range lures, in a graphite construction rod available at a mid-range price with a 7-year warranty. Blanks are 100% high-modulus carbon graphite with plasma resin infusion for an improved strength-to-weight ratio.
Fuji SiC (silicon carbide) guides across all models provide low-friction, braid-compatible guide rings. Reel seats are Fuji construction with direct blank-contact for transmitted sensitivity. Handles are Portuguese cork. The series includes visible power rings near the butt to quickly identify rod power without checking labels, a practical field feature. Quality and component specification sit above typical budget-tier rods for this price bracket. Fourteen models run from 6'10" to 7'8" in both casting (baitcaster) and spinning formats.
M and MH powers dominate the lineup, with H-power entries appearing at 7'4" and 7'5" for heavier applications. Actions are listed as either F (Fast) or M (Moderate) with actions designated in model codes. Spinning models cluster at 7'1"–7'3" in M and MH, covering light to mid-range finesse and moderate spinning work. The heaviest casting model (RVD78HFC) at 7'8" is positioned for large swimbaits and big-bait applications.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shorter MH casting entry at 6'10" for pitching and skipping under docks. Compact length improves accuracy in tight-quarters presentations where longer rods are difficult to work.
Entry spinning model in M power for light-to-medium finesse applications on 6–12 lb line. Fast action provides direct feedback on drop-shot and soft-plastic presentations.
Second 7'2" spinning model, the additional 1" over the RVD71MFS at matched power and action suggests a slight spec differentiation (guide count, handle length) not confirmed in available sources.
H-power fast casting at 7'5" handles the upper lure and line weight range in the series, heavy swimbaits, flipping into thick cover, and braided line applications requiring backbone.
Longest model in the lineup. Despite the line rating being moderate, the 7'8" length and H power are oriented toward big-bait presentations and situations requiring maximum casting distance.
