The 2023 GLX Walleye Spinning lineup is G. Loomis's top-tier walleye-specific spinning series, built for tournament and serious recreational anglers made for walleye in Great Lakes tributaries, river systems, and mid-depth lake structure. The series addresses two primary walleye disciplines: jig fishing (WJR designation) and rig/uniform retrieve work (WUR/WRR), with rod actions tuned to each. The actions are too refined for anything outside walleye and small to mid-size panfish.
Blanks use GLX high-modulus graphite with Multi-Taper Design (MTD), reinforcing high-stress nodes while reducing material elsewhere to balance weight and impact resistance. Guide trains use REC components. Reel seats are lightweight CI4+ for blank-through connection feel. Full cork handles. The series is U. S. -made and sits at the top of Loomis's domestic production tier, carrying corresponding pricing. Actions range XF to F with a single L-power rod in the set. Six models, all spinning, ranging 6'3" to 7'1".
Three WJR (jig-specific) models at 6'3" and 6'10" emphasize sensitivity for vertical and horizontal jig presentations. Two WUR (uniform retrieve) models suit slow-roll and worm-rig techniques on larger water. The lone WRR (rod-and-reel retrieve) at 7'1" L/XF handles slip-bobber and bottom-rig work with maximum feel. Lure windows cluster in the 1/8–3/8 oz range consistent with walleye jig and rig weights.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest, lightest, most sensitive rod in the series. The XF action and 1/16–5/16 oz range suit ultra-light jigs and hair jigs fished vertically in current or over shallow rock. Specialized for feel-intensive presentations.
7-foot WUR model for longer presentations, trolling harnesses, slow-roll leeches, spinner rigs at distance. ML/F combination provides sensitivity without the snap-back of XF, allowing a controlled retrieve feel.
Sole L-power rod and sole WRR (retrieve/rig) designation. The 7'1" length and light power serve slip-bobber, bottom-bouncer, and spinner rig applications where a soft tip absorbs fish and a long blank aids control on open water.
