The GCX Inshore Spinning series is made for coastal spinning anglers pursuing redfish, snook, speckled trout, flounder, and similar inshore serves. It is handcrafted in Woodland, Washington, and sold as a mid-to-premium tier option below G. Loomis's NRX+ but above the E6X line. Target angler: the dedicated inshore saltwater angler who casts frequently and needs all-day balance and sensitivity without a flagship-tier price.
Blanks use G. Loomis Multi-Taper Design with additional material reinforced in high-stress zones and removed in low-load areas. The reel seat is premium Fuji; guides are SeaGuide corrosion-resistant frames. Resin system is upgraded for impact resistance compared to standard graphite layups. The series does the stiffness taper and weight suggest a multi-modulus construction. Eleven models span 7'0" to 8'0" across ML through XH power.
The 7'0" tier handles the bulk of inshore assignments: two standard MF models (ML and M), two MGM (modified grip module) versions for heavier presentations, an MH Fast, and an H Fast. The 7'6" tier adds XF-action ML and M models for topwater and finesse work, plus an H Fast. The 8'0" tier steps up to H and XH power for heavier jigs and large swimbaits at distance, with MF action.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
MGM designation indicates modified grip module, heavier butt section for leverage on bigger fish. M-action (not MF) provides more loading depth for swim jigs, paddle tails, and heavier plugs. Lure ceiling reaches 1.5oz, well above the standard 842S MF.
Heaviest 7' model. H power with M action and 25lb line rating serves big bull reds, tarpon-class fish, or heavy structure work. The 2.25oz lure ceiling supports large swimbaits and heavy jigs seldom covered in inshore spinning series.
XF action in ML power at 7'6" is a dedicated topwater and soft plastic finesse rod. The extra-fast tip loads quickly on short casts and delivers sharp popper or walk-the-dog action. Suitable for finicky trout and redfish in shallow grass.
The outlier of the series. XH power and 40lb line rating places this outside standard inshore work, likely a tarpon, large jack, or heavy jig/popper rod. The 6oz lure ceiling is exceptional for a spinning model and suggests large-format saltwater use.
