The GCX Jig & Worm Spinning (JWR) series is G. Loomis' mid-tier (below NRX+) technique-specific entry for anglers who prefer spinning gear for jig and worm presentations, drop shots, ned rigs, shaky heads, and light jigs where the spinning setup enables lighter line and longer drag-controlled fights. Target species is predominantly bass, but the rod is functionally useful for walleye or panfish on similar presentations. The intended angler chooses spinning JWR rods by deliberate preference instead of as a compromise.

Blanks are GCX-tier carbon with Multi-Taper Design, a proprietary G. Loomis process that defines action transitions along the blank length for consistency. The series is built and hand-finished in Woodland, WA. Guide train is SeaGuide Hero One ultra-light frames to minimize tip weight; reel seats are Fuji; handles are premium cork. MSRP sits at $249–$279, placing these between the IMX-Pro and NRX+ tiers. All three models carry extra-fast (XF) action, faster than most competing jig/worm rods, for quicker hooksets on spinning gear.

Two models are 6'8" (GCX 802S) and two are 7'1" (GCX 852S and 853S); GCX 852S and 853S share length but diverge in power (M vs MH) and line weight (6–12 vs 8–14 lb). The lighter pair (802S, 852S) handles finesse presentations; 853S picks up heavier jigs and worms where more backbone is needed. Heavy-power options, the JWR designation implies the series stays within conventional light-to-medium finesse limits is absent.

A closer look at notable models.

GCX 802S JWR Spinning · 6'8" · M · XF action

Shortest model, 6'8" M/XF is the most responsive and least fatiguing option for high-repetition finesse casting in confined areas like docks and vegetation. The 1/8 oz floor suits light drop shot and ned rig heads.

GCX 853S JWR Spinning · 7'1" · MH · XF action

Steps up to MH at 7'1", handles heavier football jigs and larger worms where the lighter 852S would feel soft. At 5/8 oz ceiling it bridges into territory normally covered by casting rods, giving spinning-gear purists a usable option.
