GCX Steelhead Float

The GCX Steelhead Float series is designed for bobber/float fishing for steelhead, a technique that suspends bait or jig beneath a float and drifts it through holding water at a controlled depth. This differs from centerpin fishing in that float rods are typically used with spinning reels and require a blank that can both cast the float rig effectively and absorb the shock of a steelhead strike under a stationary indicator. The target angler is a Great Lakes or West Coast steelhead angler fishing float-and-jig, float-and-egg, or float-and-worm presentations from shore or wading.

Blanks are built on stepped mandrels with micro-tapers that reinforce stress zones while maintaining the progressive flex critical to float presentations. The tip must be lively for strike detection and line lifting during mends; the midsection needs composure to absorb sudden runs. Fuji Concept O guides are specified for clean line flow, and a full cork grip with Fuji reel seat completes the component package. Built at G. Loomis's Woodland, WA facility. The two-model lineup shares a 10'0" length and Fast action, differentiated by power.

The GCX 1201-2S STFR is Medium-Light rated for 6-12 lb / 3/8-3/4 oz, suited to lighter jigs, small eggs, and finesse presentations on light leaders. The GCX 1203-2S STFR is Medium-Heavy rated for 8-17 lb / 3/8-1 oz, providing additional backbone for heavier floats, larger jigs, and rivers where heavier tippet is appropriate. Both are two-piece.
