The G. Loomis GLX 23 JWR (Jig and Worm) Spinning series is a high-end bass fishing rod line based on finesse presentations, drop shot, shaky head, Ned rig, wacky worm, and light jig work on spinning tackle. Target angler is an experienced or tournament-level bass fisherman who prioritizes bite detection and precise lure manipulation over raw power. This series represents G. Loomis's premium GLX blank tier for spinning jig and worm applications. Blanks are built on proprietary high-modulus graphite using stepped mandrels with machined micro-tapers at specific load-bearing points, a method G.
Loomis calls multi-taper design, intended to reinforce failure zones while preserving tip sensitivity. Guides are Fuji tangle-free K SiC, which keeps the guide train light and line-management clean. Reel seat is custom CI4+ split-grip design, transmitting blank vibration directly to the angler's hand. The XF (extra fast) action dominates the lineup, appropriate for drop shot and similar techniques that require immediate tip response. Six spinning models across three lengths: 6'8" (GLX 802S), 7'1" (GLX 852S and 853S), and 7'5" (GLX 891S, 892S, 893S).
Powers run ML through MH. One model departs from XF: the GLX 891S is 7'5" ML with standard fast action, suited for wacky/Neko rigs where slightly more tip compliance aids hook set. The two MH models (853S at 7'1", 893S at 7'5") handle heavier jigs and swimbaits at the upper end of spinning technique.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest model. 6'8" M XF is the drop shot specialist, compact enough for boat deck accuracy, extra-fast tip for detecting light bites on slack line. Lure cap of 1/4oz suits finesse tungsten weights.
The only fast-action (not XF) and ML model in the series. 7'5" ML F is configured for wacky and Neko rig presentations where a slightly softer tip cushions the hookset to maintain plastic-on-hook contact. Lightest lure range in the lineup.
Longest and heaviest-rated model. 7'5" MH XF handles bigger football jigs and heavier finesse swimbaits up to 7/16oz. Useful in deep-water jig situations where extra length aids line management and MH power aids bottom feel.
