The IMX-Pro Steelhead Float Spinning series is a two-rod lineup built specifically for float/bobber suspension fishing for steelhead and salmon from bank and wade positions. Float fishing, drifting a bobber over holding water, requires a long spinning rod that can mend line, keep the float at distance, and transmit the float's dip into a reliable hookset. G. Loomis designed these rods in-house in Woodland, WA with input from professional steelhead guides, using multi-taper blank construction to achieve moderate action without sacrificing sensitivity.
Target water includes West Coast steelhead rivers (Columbia, Deschutes, Rogue and similar systems). Blanks are IMX-PRO graphite with multi-taper design; both rods are 2-piece at 10'6", making them manageable for transport while maintaining the length required for long float presentations. Moderate action allows the float to load the tip on a hook-set signal without over-telegraphing resistance. Fuji Alconite guides are used throughout; cork handles are quality-grade. At 10'6", both rods are firmly in the Centerpin float class but designed specifically for spinning reel use.
Reel seats are confirmed Fuji spinning type. Both rods are 10'6" 2-piece spinning with moderate action: IMX-PRO 1260-2S STFR is Light power (6–10 lb, 1/4–1/2 oz) and IMX-PRO 1261-2S STFR is Medium-Light power (6–12 lb, 3/8–3/4 oz). The 1261 handles heavier float rigs and eggs/jigs in faster, deeper water; the 1260 is tuned for lighter presentations in clearer, slower conditions. The power increment is modest but meaningful for line management in current.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Light-power float rod for clearer, slower water conditions. 6–10 lb line rating suits fluorocarbon leaders on pressured fish; 1/4–1/2 oz range covers standard float/shot rigs.
Medium-light power for faster, deeper drifts requiring heavier shot and larger floats. Handles up to 3/4 oz; the additional power aids control over a loaded rig in heavy current without sacrificing float sensitivity.
