The IMX-PRO Steelhead Spinning is a premium river steelhead series hand-rolled in Woodland, Washington, tuned in collaboration with professional steelhead guides for drift fishing, float presentations, jig-and-bobber, and spoon/spinner work on large Pacific Northwest rivers. At $445–$455 it sits in the mid-upper tier of the G. Loomis lineup, below NRX+ but above GCX. The intended angler has technique-specific needs and fishes steelhead seriously enough to justify a rod at this price point.
Blanks feature G. Loomis's proprietary Multi-Taper Design, material placed strategically at stress points, delivering a blank balanced between light feel and structural integrity. Fuji Alconite guides and Fuji reel seat are standard. All models are two-piece with cork/foam handle. The series covers spinning presentations only (no float or casting variants in this sub-series); actions range from Moderate (for mending-heavy float work) to Moderate Fast (for jigs and spoons) to one Fast model for heavy sink-tip presentations.
Seven models across 7'10" to 9'9", spanning L to H power. The 7'10" M XF (942S) is the shortest and likely a summer/low-water jig model; the three 9'9" models (ML/MH/H) cover the full range of winter run conditions from delicate finesse (ML MF, 6-12lb) to heavy nymphing and spawn sacks (H MF, 10-20lb). The 9'3" L Moderate is the lightest-touch float/drift option. No model goes below 6lb or above 20lb line.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
Shortest rod in the series with the fastest action (XF). Best suited to summer/low-water steelhead where short-line jig work or tight river conditions limit casting arc. The XF tip provides direct feedback for subtle strikes in clear, slow water.
The only L-power, Moderate-action model. Designed for float/bobber presentations and finesse drift fishing where the softer tip loads against a bobber stop and telegraphs strikes delicately. Light line (6-10lb) limits it to clear, pressured water.
Heaviest model at H power, 10-20lb, and 3/8-1 1/2oz. Built for big-river winter runs where heavy corky/yarn rigs, weighted jigs, or large spoons in fast current demand backbone. Also functional for large coho and Chinook on spinning gear.
