Built for Pacific salmon mooching and trolling from boats, primarily made for Chinook (king) salmon in bays and nearshore ocean. The technique calls for presenting cut-plug herring or other cut-bait on long leaders while the boat drifts with minimal power, the rod needs to load softly enough that fish mouth the bait without feeling resistance. Suited to anglers who fish multi-rod spreads from stern and bow, using rod length to separate lines.

Blanks are mid-modulus fiber-blend graphite (not high-modulus), a deliberate choice to give the moderate action necessary for mooching without sacrificing durability. Multi-Taper Design reinforces potential stress points across the blank. Fuji Alconite guides keep weight down. Handmade in Woodland, Washington. The moderate/medium action is optimized for passive bait presentation, not hook-setting on the initial bite.

Four casting models spanning 8'6" to 10'6", all rated H power with M (moderate) action and a 1–6oz lure range. The 10'6" SAMR 1265C bumps the line ceiling to 40lb for more aggressive setups. Shorter rods (8'6"–9'0") suit stern positions; the longer 9'9"–10'6" models work at the bow to maximize spread. All four are conventional (casting) format, Spinning models in this series is absent.

SAMR 1265 C Casting · 10'6" · H · M action

The longest and heaviest-rated model in the series. Extended reach suits bow positioning on multi-rod spreads; bumped line ceiling (40lb vs 30lb on shorter siblings) accommodates heavier leaders or dropper rigs when made for large Chinook in stronger tidal current.
