The G. Loomis Salmon Series Plug Rod (PR) is a back-trolling and plug-fishing rod for Pacific salmon and steelhead anglers who fish deep-diving plugs, Hot Shots, Wiggle Warts, and similar lures, behind a boat on rivers. The technique involves matching boat speed to current slightly slower than the drift, allowing the plug to dive and work erratically. The rod's light tip confirms lure action by telegraphing the plug's wiggle while the powerful butt section handles strikes from large fish and provides the leverage to fight them.

At 8'2", the SAPR 982 C provides the reach needed for controlling plug position in a river drift and the length to manage line with multiple rods in the water. The Medium power with Extra Fast action produces the distinct tip-to-butt transition that defines this style of rod. The broad lure rating (1/2–5 oz) reflects the varied plug sizes used for different species and river depths, plus the incidental use for light back-bouncing. Handle configuration is listed as Handle A per the manufacturer's product page.

The series contains a single model, the SAPR 982 C, at 8'2" with Medium power and XF action. No multi-model or multi-power range exists within the Salmon PR casting series. It is positioned within the broader G. Loomis Salmon Series, which also includes spinning variants and other technique-specific models.

SAPR 982 C Casting · 8'2" · M · XF action

The only model in the series. The 8'2" length and tip-reading action are matched to backtrolling plugs from a drift boat. The 12–25 lb line rating accommodates both lighter main lines for finesse presentation and heavier setups for deep fast water or chinook-sized fish. Not optimized for casting despite the baitcasting blank format.
