Cat Slayer Custom

The Okuma Cat Slayer Custom is a dedicated freshwater catfishing series, made for channel cats, blue cats, and flatheads across river and reservoir environments. It is distinct from the standard Cat Slayer line in its use of E-glass blank construction combined with UFR (Ultimate Flex Reinforcement) tip technology. E-glass is chosen deliberately over graphite for this application: it is significantly more impact-resistant and produces a slower, more parabolic bend that helps keep hooks in catfish (which have tough, bony mouths) during extended fights.

UFR reinforces the tip section to handle repeated heavy sinker loads and aggressive hook sets. Double-foot welded stainless-steel guides are the appropriate hardware for heavy braided and monofilament line classes (10–80lb). A heavy-duty aluminum reel seat with double lock nut prevents reel movement under heavy loads. UV-activated paint and guide wraps improve visibility in low-light catfishing, which is frequently a nighttime activity. Tapered shrink tube grips are durable and provide grip in wet conditions. The -B suffix on one model (CSCB-C-761XH) likely denotes a bank-fishing variant.

Seven models: five casting and two spinning, all at 7'6" or 8'0" length. Powers run ML to XH. The spinning models in ML and M at medium action are suited for finesse catfish techniques, Carolina rigs or slip floats with lighter baits. The casting models step up to MH, H, and XH for heavier setups including large live bait, heavy bottom rigs, and trophy flathead work. The XH fast-action casting model (65–80lb line) is intended for heavy-cover environments.
