Crab Snare

The Okuma Crab Snare Special is specialized for crab snaring from shore, a technique in which a wire snare rig is cast from the bank or surf, allowed to rest on the bottom with bait, and retrieved to trap crabs by their legs or claws when reeled in. The rods are designed for West Coast anglers made for Dungeness and rock crabs from beaches, piers, and jetties. The target angler is a shore-based crabber who needs to cast heavy snare rigs and handle strong resistance from current and loaded traps.

Blanks use a graphite composite construction that balances sensitivity for detecting when a crab has engaged the snare with the power to haul rigs through current and surf. Aluminum oxide guide inserts sit in double-foot stainless steel frames for durability in saltwater. Cork-wrapped fore and rear grips with EVA cushions above and below the reel seat address all-day casting comfort. Two-piece construction assists transport. The spinning configuration and long lengths maximize casting distance for reaching crab habitat from shore.

The lineup spans two lengths and powers: the CSS-S-1102H is 11'0" Heavy power rated for 3-8 oz / 20-40 lb, suited to standard Dungeness snare rigs in moderate surf and current. The CSS-S-1202XH is 12'0" Extra-Heavy rated for 12-16 oz / 20-50 lb, designed for heavier rigs and rougher water conditions where maximum casting weight and blank power are required to hold bottom and manage the retrieve.
