The Dead Eye Pro A Series is Okuma's technique-specific walleye lineup, made for anglers who specialize in particular presentations instead of fishing a general-purpose stick. The series addresses bottom bouncing, trolling, jigging, and live-bait casting with rods purpose-tuned to each, notable given how few manufacturers distinguish between walleye techniques at this price level. Target species is walleye, with secondary application to sauger and smallmouth in similar environments. Blanks are 24/30-ton carbon depending on model, the bottom-bouncing/trolling rods use the more forgiving 24-ton construction while jigging-specific models step up to 30-ton for increased sensitivity.

The UFRII (Ultimate Flex Reinforced) rod tip increases tip-section durability while maintaining responsiveness. Sea Guide XO 316-SS angled guide frames with zirconium inserts handle braided line; their angled geometry is intended to reduce line twist during trolling and bottom-contact presentations. Tapered cork fore and rear grips throughout. 1-year limited warranty. The ten-model lineup is predominantly spinning (eight rods) with two casting bait-runner-style models. Lengths run 6' to 8'6", powers M to MH, actions F to MF. Shorter spinning rods (6') cover finesse jigging and light live-bait applications; mid-length 7'-7'10" models address bottom bouncing and drifting; the 8' casting rod with CGA (cork grip assembly) and 8'6" CBR trolling sticks handle boat control applications requiring extra length for rod spread.

The DEP-C-801M-CGA fast model stands alone as the live-bait/slip-float casting option.

Deeper Dive

A closer look at notable models.

DEP-S-661MLFTA Spinning · 6' 6" · ML · F action

Lightest spinning model in the lineup; ML/F combination with 1/16oz lower limit is made for finesse jig presentations, small hair jigs, curl-tail grubs, or light tube baits on light line in clear-water conditions typical of mid-season walleye.

DEP-C-801M-CGA Casting · 8' 0" · M · F action

CGA designation (cork grip assembly) distinguishes this as a slip-float or live-bait casting rod. Fast action at 8' provides reach for longer presentations from a boat or bank, while M power handles walleye-sized fish without overloading light terminal gear.

DEP-CBR-861M-TA Casting · 8' 6" · M · MF action

Longest model in the series; CBR suffix indicates bottom-bouncing/trolling rod designation. Extra length improves rod spread in a multi-rod trolling spread and cushions surges from dragging-style walleye presentations. MF action adds forgiveness vs. Straight fast.
