The Okuma Diamond Elite is a multi-technique freshwater trolling rod series designed primarily for Great Lakes and big-water made for of salmon, steelhead, walleye, and lake trout. It addresses the full suite of Great Lakes trolling methods in a single product family at a budget-to-mid price point ($79.99–$139.99). The series is organized around specific trolling approaches coded into the model prefix: CL (copper/leadcore), DR (dipsy/rigger trolling), C (standard conventional), DD (downrigger), and WL (wire line with swivel roller tip).
Blanks are 24-ton carbon construction, responsive but not particularly high-modulus, suited to the telegraphing strike detection required in trolling. Low-profile stainless steel guide frames with Zirconium inserts provide smooth mono and braid flow; wire/copper/leadcore models (WL and CL) use welded stainless steel guides to survive the abrasion of metal line. WL models include a swivel roller tip to reduce twist. EVA fore and rear grips, rubber non-skid gimbals on all models for rod holder stability.
1-year warranty. The 15-model lineup covers 7'–10' lengths. Shorter 7' models (DME-CL-701MHa, DME-DR-701MHa) handle standard rigger and copper setups. The 7'6"–8'6" DR models provide progressively longer reach for dipsy diver and general trolling. The 9' and 10' models handle longer leads and more demanding setups. DMES-coded models (LB and UR suffixes) are specialty formats: LB (likely lead-core blank) in 7'–7'6" and the UR-761MH (ultra-roller?) at 7'6" MH.
Deeper Dive
A closer look at notable models.
The heaviest single model in the lineup at 16.2 oz. The UR designation and elevated weight suggest a roller guide system throughout, appropriate for wire or mono lines at significant trolling depths where line friction on standard guides degrades feel.
Copper/leadcore model at 8'6" M/MF. The heaviest-noted physical weight in the lineup (14.1 oz) reflects the full stainless guide train required for leadcore. MF action and medium power balance load sensitivity with the sustained resistance of copper line trolling.
Wire line trolling model with swivel roller tip top. The WL designation indicates welded stainless guides throughout to resist metal-line abrasion. At 8'6" MH, this handles the sustained pull of wire line rigs at depth for salmon and lake trout.
The longest model at 10' MH, a downrigger-specific build. Extra length aids high-stacking of multiple rods on the downrigger boom and provides the arc needed to detect the subtle weight change when a downrigger clip releases on a strike.
