Guide Select Classic

The Okuma Guide Select Classic is a Pacific Northwest salmon-specific trolling and casting rod series designed for downrigger, diver, and lead-core trolling applications made for Chinook, coho, and similar large salmon from boats in open water. The series is specialized for the strain of pulling heavy hardware, large flashers, divers, lead sinkers, and plug-cut herring, and absorbing the prolonged pressure of fighting large salmon. Blanks are 24-ton carbon with moderate taper, a deliberate choice that provides slow-loading tips for taking fish on the bite without tearing mouths, combined with strong mid-section power for leveraging fish to the net.

SeaGuide XBG 316-grade stainless steel guide frames are corrosion-resistant for repeat saltwater and freshwater exposure. Fuji reel seats and 3K woven carbon fiber grips, including a unique carbon screw-down foregrip, are premium details for a PNW trolling rod. All models are one-piece casting configuration; longer models extend to 12'3" for side-planer and extended reach scenarios. Eight models from 8'0" to 12'3", power M through XH. The 8'0" M and MH models are standard boat trolling lengths for downrigger work; the 9' and 9'3" models add reach for larger diver rigs; the 10'6" and 12'3" models extend to planer board and herring troll applications where maximum rod arc distance is required.

XH models reaching 4–16oz lure ratings handle the heaviest lead and dodger combinations used in deep offshore salmon trolling.
