The Hawaiian Custom Surf Travel Rod series is Okuma's packable surf and light-saltwater platform, designed for traveling anglers who want a capable rod for Hawaiian-style shore fishing, casting from lava rock ledges, piers, and beaches for reef species, trevally, and papio, without checking a full-length surf rod as oversized luggage. The name reflects the style of shore fishing common in Hawaii, where multi-piece travel rods are standard among local anglers. Blanks use 24-ton low-resin carbon, a softer modulus than typical surf rods, appropriate for the lighter line weights and varied species mix of Hawaiian shore fishing versus mainland heavy surf.

Both models use stainless steel guide frames with zirconium inserts compatible with braid and mono. Grips are TPE foam in a split-butt design to reduce weight. A 3K metal woven finish provides visual distinction. Each rod ships with a protective travel tube. The "b" suffix in model names indicates a revised build generation. The lineup splits on length and power: the HWA-S-903Mb is 9'0" M power on a 3-piece blank rated for 8–17 lb line and 3/8–1 oz, a lighter, versatile option for casting smaller jigs, cut bait, and light papio rigs; the HWM-S-1074MHb steps to 10'7" MH power with 4-piece construction rated for 8–20 lb line and 1/2–2 oz, adding reach and backbone for heavier presentations and larger target species.
